Music Technology Overview
Pulse College's existing 2 year Diploma in Sound Engineering is currently Ireland’s most popular sound engineering course qualification (sometimes referred to as Audio Engineering). Pulse College attracts students from around the world, and professional sound graduates have gone on to work with some of the top artists in the world including U2, Van Morrisson and Kylie Minogue. Our commercial studios have hosted artists such as 50 Cent, Jon Bon Jovi, New Order and Bryan Adams
The Pulse College sound engineering department has trained some of the top audio engineers in the world. We are committed to providing the highest standard of professional audio training for our students. As part of our continuing commitment, Pulse has recently acquired the world famous Windmill Lane Recording Studios, one of the most famous recording studios in the world.
Windmill Lane Recording Studio has hosted many great artists over the last thirty years including U2, REM, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, the Spice Girls, Shania Twain, Tom Jones and The Script to name but a few. It is also renowned for orchestral recordings, particularly film scores. Music for many major films,including film scores by the legendary Elmer Bernstein, have been recorded in our fabulous Studio 1 live room. There is simply no better sound engineering training environment for audio engineers and producers.

Tony Perrey – College Director
Tony Perrey was one of the founders of Pulse Recording College established in 1991. Pulse Recording College was the first sound training college in Ireland to offer City & Guilds qualification in sound engineering in association with the City of Westminster College London. Tony was responsible for establishing The Engine Room Recording Studio, where he has worked with many of the country's top acts in an engineer / producer capacity. Clients include: Mary Black, Hot House Flowers, Maire Brennan (nominated for a Grammy Award), Christy Moore, The Vards, Aslan, Bellefire, Flood (producer of U2, New Order, Smashing Pumpkins etc.), Fiachra Trench (arranger inc. Pearl Harbour) and Ballykissangel. Tony has been part of the team that has developed Pulse Recording College, The Engine Room, Area 51 and the acquisition of the Iconic Windmill Recording Studio overseeing the college transformations to become a center of excellence and "The leaders in creative media education". -
Ger McDonnell
Ger is music producer/mixer/engineer with credits including U2, Manic Street Preachers, Dido, Texas, Def Leppard, Kasabian to name a few. At the age of eight, he began to study orchestral percussion at the College of Music. Ger went on to work extensively with Mike on various high-profile projects such as U2, utilising many of the best recording studios in the UK, Ireland and France. -
Fiachra Trench
Fiachra Trench is a composer, arranger, producer, keyboardist and musical director. His scores for film and television include: A Love Divided, The Boys and Girl from County Clare (IFTA Nomination 2006), Dear Sarah and People’s Century, and he collaborated on Pearl Harbor, Die Hard and Into the West. Arrangement credits include: Altan, Paul Brady, The Boomtown Rats, The Chieftains, The Corrs, Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy (including brass and strings on the original ‘Old Town’), Paul McCartney/Wings, Van Morrison, The Pogues and Wet Wet Wet. -
Stuart Clark
Originally a buccaneering DJ with the offshore Radio Caroline and the Voice of Peace. Stuart Clarke arrived in Ireland during the height of the pirate wars. Woking with Limerick 95FM, his attentions increasingly turned towards journalism and he found work in Limerick Tribune. He moved to Dublin in 1990, and has since risen through the ranks at Hot Press to become Deputy Editor. He not only works for Hot Press, he is as a regular contributor to Matt Cooper's The Last Word on Today FM, TV3, RTÉ and Setanta Sports TV.
