Summer Game Development Course
This course will aim to introduce students to the core concepts and technologies behind interactive applications and video games. Topics will include the following:-
Introduction to programming:
- Introduction to programming and animation using the Java based Processing IDE
- Simple mathematics and physics concepts such as collision and motion
- Incorporating game assets such as audio and graphics
- Using external devices and interfaces like Java enabled phones and gamepad controllers
- Game Development for the Windows and Xbox 360 platform using C# and the Microsoft XNA Framework
Introduction to Game audio:
- Assessing game audio requirements
- Basic Recording techniques
- Game audio workflow
- Digital audio workstations (Pro-Tools)
- Non Linear audio for games
Introduction to 3d Graphics in Gaming:
- The process of creating Game Art Assets using a 3d art Package
- Texturing of game art assets using Photoshop
- Creating levels and Environments, using simple blocked out 3d shapes
- Exporting from a 3d package into a game engine
- Exploring the different areas of game art. Ie. Environment, Character, Vehicle, Props and Special Effect Art areas
