4th Annual Dingle Film Festival a Roaring Success

Noel Quinn Guest Lecturer Profile

Dingle Film Festival 2010 returned by popular demand and this year was bigger and better that ever. In its 4th year running it was once again a huge success with sun shining and celebrities out in force. The decision to move the date from September to March, turned out to be a wise one and as a result double the festival attendance. This allowed the organisers to expand this year’s event, enabling the festival to screen several Irish films which attracted a major attendance from the Irish film industry.

Cillian Murphy(Batman Begins, Red Eye) opened the event with Perrier's Bounty; Stephen Frears(The Snapper, The Queen) was presented the Gregory Peck Award from Ned Dowd (Last of The Mohicans); Head of RED Europe, Alan Piper came to Dingle, along with Laura Castelli of Assimilate, Eugene McCrystal and Kevin Smart from HoloVis.

This year 33 events took place throughout Dingle for the festival weekend, including the festival clubs which were among the many highlights. The organizers managed to ensure there was entertainment on offer to suit everyone. From traditional music in John Benny's bar, to the incredible 1930's night in the speakeasy, and not forgetting to mention the sublime performance by Mary Coughlan. With the success of the event a documentary on the festival is now in production, directed by Geoff Wonfor (Beatles Anthology) and produced by Diane Namm, which is still being filmed on location in Dingle.

Local businesses felt a significant benefit for the first time, with influx of visitors to the festival making a direct impact on the town. Festival goers did not appear to be held back by the current economic crisis. Congratulations to all the organisers who made it such a success and here in Pulse College we are chomping on the bit next year’s festival.
